A winter trip to the mountains — how to plan transport
Getting to resorts in the Karkonosze and Owl Mountains in winter is different from summer: there's extra equipment, road conditions, and traffic near the ski lifts. Below are practical tips for trips from airports and cities to Karpacz, Szklarska Poręba, Zieleniec and Czarna Góra.
Add a buffer for road conditions
The final kilometres to mountain resorts are steep roads, often cleared later than usual after overnight snowfall. It's worth adding 20–40 minutes to the standard driving time, especially on weekend mornings and during school holidays.
The car has 4x4 drive and winter tyres, so getting right up to your guesthouse or apartment usually doesn't require switching vehicles or leaving luggage further down.
Ski equipment and luggage
- Tell us the number of pairs of skis, snowboards and boots when booking
- Let us know if the equipment is in bags — it makes loading easier to plan
- For 6 people with full equipment, we work out the luggage layout in advance
- Pushchairs and travel car seats should also be mentioned ahead of time
Trips during your stay
Besides the trip there and back, short trips to the ski lift, the rental shop or dinner in another town are often needed. We bill these as a car with driver on standby — more convenient than booking each leg separately.
